Journey that calls for celebration! Here are five inspirational
ladies we celebrate this month:
At age 14, she boldly moved from her
native Austria to the very foreign world of the French courts,
all to marry a
man she’d never met. Luckily
there were dresses and shoes
aplenty. Unluckily, there were also guillotines.
An avid
mountain climber and promoter of women’s rights, Annie
was 58 when she became the first person
to climb Peru's highest peak. Traveling and climbing into her
80s, Annie proved that aging gracefully isn't as exciting as
aging
vivaciously.
A native
Guatemalan who endured a long civil war, Rigoberta has been
courageously fighting against injustice and human rights violations
with a woman’s strength, resilience, and determination
for over 30 years. With drive like that, it’s no wonder
she won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992.
She
was the head of hospitals at the front during the American Civil
War. President Lincoln put her in charge of locating all the
missing Union soldiers. And she organized the American Red Cross.
She also campaigned for women’s suffrage with Susan B.
Anthony, and for equal rights with Frederick Douglas. Whew!
This
New
Zealander became the first woman to travel alone to the magnetic
North Pole in 1988. Not impressed? Well... she was 50 years old,
she walked there, and she dragged her own sled the whole way. |

J’adore Provence
There’s no place like Provence, the region of France
that inspires writers (Peter Mayle), artists (Vincent Van
Gogh), and visitors (you!) See the lavender fields, colorful
markets, Roman ruins, charming hilltop villages, vineyard
after vineyard, and did we mention the food? Experience it
all in a group of eight women with your friendly guide
from French Escapade. Will you love Provence? You’ll
be saying “Oui, Oui, Oui!” all the way home!

 Enchanting Italy
Four women rent an Italian villa and it changes their
lives. Sound
familiar? It’s the plot of the 1992 film “Enchanted
April.” If you’re lusting after such
a villa, come to Tuscany for an enchanted April of your
own at Villa Vergaia, surrounded by vineyards
and manicured gardens. An authentic former convent,
the large villa’s deluxe renovations include a home
theater, a pool with sweeping views and an adjoining pergola
containing a bar, sound system, large table and couches.
At Villa Vergaia, la vita è bella!
