different than to trek through five climate
zones and stand on the "roof of Africa," surrounded

a childhood on the flat Kansas plains.
With whom did you
travel? Adventures
in Good Company, a group which plans and
organizes domestic and international adventures
for women of varying ages and levels of
fitness. I usually travel alone,
and this company provides all the details
necessary and attracts fellow travelers
of like interests who meld quickly into
a cohesive, compatible group with the help
of excellent guides.
Journey Highlights: Reaching the summit
of Mt. Kilimanjaro, 19,340 ft. elevation,
was definitely a highlight and personal
achievement at age 65. The beauty
and uniqueness of each of the climate zones,
observing the personal growth of fellow
trekkers as they gained altitude on their
own strength and effort, watching the porters
nimbly and efficiently carry heavy loads
up and over rough terrain, and the marvelous
animal safari after the climb were also
definite highlights.
Would you recommend
this journey to others? Yes,
definitely. Adventures in Good Company
explicitly describes fitness levels of
each adventure. So if the desire
and fitness (they provide suggestions for
developing fitness appropriate for a particular
adventure) are present, go! It is
the experience of a lifetime - safe, fun,
personally challenging, and inspiring.
Where do you want
to go for your next journey? I'd
like to visit both Peru and India, and
spend more time in the Canadian Rockies
and the California Sierras.
